Premiere Eric McCormack showed fans a whole different side of himself with the premiere of his new crime procedural ?Perception? (Mon., 10 p.m. ET on TNT). McCormack plays Dr. Daniel Pierce, a brilliant scientist and professor who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. The show takes viewers inside Pierce?s mind, including his hallucinations, so that they ? like him ? can?t always be sure what is real. It?s the unique twist this show is putting on the otherwise tried-and-true procedural format, and it will live or die based solely on McCormack?s ability to sell the character. He?s certainly off to a solid start, with several critics saying he?s the best thing about the show. The New York Daily News says of McCormack and the show, ?Any shortcomings here are not his.? They then go on to list several shortcomings. ?Maybe at a certain point it won?t feel like all this is a little too gimmicky,? their review said in its conclusion about the show. It?s certainly a fun way to look at crime, with McCormack establishing the genesis of what could be a very compelling character to watch. Another intriguing character is former-student-turned FBI agent Kate Moretti. Played by Rachel Leigh Cook, Moretti is impulsive, a little reckless, and perhaps just as unpredictable as Pierce; only in a completely different way. This season will bring new alliances, new enemies and new attitudes as a fresh group of girls takes on a different city. Tues., July 10: ?Destination Truth? (9 p.m. ET on Syfy) season premiere Season 5 opens with two special back-to-back episodes, as Josh Gates and his team lead viewers on a chase into one of the world?s biggest caves in the jungles of Vietnam to search for Bigfoot. Then, at the overwhelming request of fans, they?ll travel to Romania for a return visit to the haunted Hoia Bachu Forest, the site of their most terrifying investigation to date, and then explore the reportedly haunted Mayan ruins of Tikal in pursuit of a monster known as the Belize Goblin. Tues., July 10: ?White Collar? (9 p.m. ET on USA) season premiere The unique partnership between con man Neal Caffrey and FBI agent Peter Burke was upended in the Season 3 finale when Neal fled the country with Mozzie. The series returns for a dramatic fourth season exploring Burke?s fate with the FBI, the whereabouts of Caffrey and whether or not their relationship will ever be the same again. (9 p.m. ET on ABC Family) series premiere Play dates on Rodeo Drive, ironing the baby?s Burberry, personal chefs and over-the-top parental demands are only just the tip of the iceberg for a group of nannies that work for high powered families living in the most exclusive zip code in the country. (9 p.m. ET on DirecTV) season premiere The fifth and final season centers on the timely and controversial subject of government and corporate transparency, focusing on how the ever-changing digital landscape shapes the way in which information is obtained and shared. (9 p.m. ET on CBS) season premiere 12 new houseguests compete to be the last contestant standing. (10 p.m. ET on Showtime) season premiere New cast-members from the New York lesbian scene join the show for its third season, as well as returning LA fan favorites. Although the series straddles both coasts, it will continue to depict these ladies in their passionate (mis-)adventures, both at work and play. Fans can also expect some big surprises and special guest star appearances throughout the season. Fri., July 13: ?Can You Survive A Horror Movie?? It definitely has potential, and I love Eric in the lead and Rachel Leigh Cooke. Pilots are often not indicative of what the regular show will be like, and so I guess we?ll have to wait and see. Granted, I?m not saying it was bad. Far from it, as I really enjoyed it. But there?s a lot of room for growth, so hopefully they will expand into that space. MAL406 0 Fans 10:08 AM on 07/10/2012 I watched the premiere of ?Perception? and think that Eric was brilliant and, as was mentioned in the article, any shortcomings were not his. I believe that had Eric portrayed this character before he played Will Truman, I wouldn?t have had trouble separating his new character from his previous character. Although Eric was brilliant, the show lagged in spots and I found myself yawning. I will tune in again and hope that the show will perk up in future episodes. Bravo, Eric!
