In a recent interview with videogamer.com it appears that Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has plans to leave retail development when the company finishes creation of Crysis 3, Ryse and Homefront 2.
Once the company is done creating those 3 games, it will transition into a free-2-play model. Crytek has already created one free-2-play game, Warface, which?is currently live in Russia, and is undergoing a closed beta in China, sadly there is no date for a US or Europe launch however hopefully we can expect one soon.
Yerli said,??If you look at what kind of games are done in the packaged goods market, with DLCs and premium services and whatnot, it?s literally milking the customers to death.?
?Right now we are in the transitional phase of our company, transitioning from packaged goods games into an entirely free-to-play experience.
?What this entails is that our future, all the new games that we?re working on, as well new projects, new platforms and technologies, are designed around free-to-play and online, with the highest quality development.?
So what do you think of this? are you happy that they are leaving retail?development?and now everything they make will be free? or do you not mind paying a $40-$50 premium for a console game?
